Rainy Day Activities for Kids and Parents!

Rainboots playing in puddles.

Are you and your kids looking for fun but simple activities to do indoors when it’s raining out? It may be wet and gloomy out, but you can find creative ways to keep your kids entertained and make an entire day out of it. Read our list of fun activities you can do on a rainy day!

  • Have fun with slime! Gather some corn star, water, and food coloring and satisfy the senses by making Oobleck slime! Start with a ¾ cup of water, add food coloring, then measure out one cup of cornstarch. Pour the cornstarch into a plastic bowl or bin. Slowly add the water and food coloring. Mix for about ten minutes and let your kid sink their hands into the Oobleck once complete!

  • Release tension with indoor yoga! Yoga is a perfect way to spend a rainy day. Learn about some beginner stretches with our instructional yoga video! Click here to watch the video.

  • Hold an indoor scavenger hunt! Make up a list of items that can be found throughout the house, then the kids must find and photograph each item on the list.

  • Start baking! Look up your favorite cookie recipe or even use a few simple ingredients for homemade pizza. Satisfy your cravings with some of your favorite comfort foods. Check out our very own snickerdoodle recipe here! Click here to watch the video.

  • Create fun sports games with balloons! For example, enjoy Balloon Tennis by gathering paper plates, balloons, masking tape, then either plastic spoon or a wooden paint stirrer. Tape your spoon or wooden stirrer to the back of your plate, then use it like a tennis racket with the balloon as your ball.

  • Make a hallway laser maze! Grab some streamers and tape them across your hallway. Once it’s all set up, let your kids try to get through the maze without touching the streamers a.k.a. the lasers!

  • Make a DIY cardboard marble run! Make a cool marble run out of an old box and paper towel rolls for a fun STEM project at home.

  • Hold a paper airplane challenge! All you need is some paper. Design your own paper planes then start racing them to see who has the best design and which one goes the farthest!
