Great Futures Pathway

At Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin, we believe great futures don’t just happen—they’re built.

The Great Futures Pathway is our long-term strategy to ensure every young person develops the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to thrive. From early literacy to workforce readiness, we guide youth through three critical milestones:

Start Smart. Grow Strong. Get Future Ready.

Across our 30+ Clubs serving 11,500+ kids in 10 communities, we envision a Sonoma County where no kid lives in poverty—and where every young person has a clear path forward.

Start Smart

Early Literacy & Academic Confidence

Only about 4 in 10 Sonoma County students are reading at grade level by third grade.

Reading by the end of second grade is a critical milestone. When kids learn to read, they gain the confidence to read to learn—unlocking success across every subject.

Our Commitment

Through intentional literacy support, academic enrichment, and caring adult mentorship, we ensure kids learn to read—so they can read to learn.

Outcome:
Confident readers. Strong academic foundations. Kids keeping pace.

Grow Strong

Mental Health & Social-Emotional Development

More than one in three California students report chronic feelings of sadness or hopelessness—impacting 34% of 7th graders and nearly 40% by 11th grade.

Our Commitment

At the Club, kids are surrounded by caring mentors, safe spaces, joyful activities, sports, arts, leadership opportunities, and healthy meals. These experiences create powerful protective factors: belonging, resilience, and purpose.

Outcome:
Resilient young people who feel supported, capable, and connected.

GET FUTURE READY

Workforce Readiness & Leadership

Only 48% of California graduates complete coursework required for college admission.

Our Commitment

Through career exploration, workforce training, leadership development, credential opportunities, and mentorship, we help teens define and pursue their future with clarity and confidence.

Outcome:
Prepared graduates. Clear pathways. Confident futures.

The Whole Club Experience

Every milestone is strengthened by what makes the Club unique:

Safe spaces.
Caring mentors.
Academic support.
Sports, arts, leadership.
Healthy meals.
A true sense of belonging.

These are not optional supports—they are the foundations of lifelong success.

Without them, kids fall behind and face lifelong economic and social challenges.
With them, kids graduate, build careers, and break cycles of poverty.

Read Across America

Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin is proud to participate in Read Across America at multiple Club sites. By bringing community leaders and volunteers into our Clubs to read with members, we’re reinforcing the importance of literacy, academic success, and a lifelong love of learning.

Together, we’re helping build strong readers — and even stronger futures.

Pilot Literacy Program Results!

Our Fall 2025 pilot introduced children to small-group literacy sessions led by trained youth development professionals and literacy coaches. Lessons were guided by research-based methods rooted in the science of reading, emphasizing phonemic awareness, vocabulary building, and comprehension through age-appropriate texts and interactive learning.
